Speed and flexibility the watchwords in development work

Pynnönen International Ltd Oy has over 60 years of experience in the logistics industry. For this family firm, speed and flexibility in the oranisation of transport services, and meeting special customer needs, are competitive advantages. In the near term, the company intends to invest in warehousing services in particular.

In order to serve its customers as well as possible, the firm embarked on mapping out the purchase of a new ERP system. The objective was to replace its many, different systems with a single, comprehensive one, suitable for this haulage firm and offering the full range of key functionality: export and import consignments, warehousing functions, invoicing, route planning and reception of EDI orders.

Digia Logistics - a ready-made solution

Digia was able to provide Pynnönen International Ltd Oy with a ready-made solution. Logistics by Digia is an ERP system for transport and logistics companies. It is formed from independent products developed to meet the needs of various areas of logistics. Due to its modular structure, the solution is customisable to each customer environment and need.

Pynnönen International Ltd Oy adopted the following system modules:

  • Export consignments – comprehensive handling of export shipments
  • Export customs clearance – third-country customs clearance and Elex handling
  • Road traffic – shipment handling and printout routines for all import and export units and shipments
  • Invoicing – pricing and invoicing printout routines for all import and export units and shipments
  • Cost-entry management – purchase invoice entry and cost allocation routines for all import and export units and shipments
  • Infocenter – routines and tools for shipment margin monitoring and reporting
  • Customer management – management of transportation contracts
  • Terminal system – warehouse loading and unloading management, short-term warehousing of goods and domestic route planning

 

Fast, expert entry into use

The project kicked off in July 2008. With the participation of Digia’s expert consultants in the logistics industry, the specification phase was completed flexibly and quickly. The actual implementation work began in October 2008, with Pynnönen International Ltd Oy able to use its new ERP system as early as January 2009.

The only area requiring customer-based conversion work was the system’s integration with those provided by German partner, CHEP. The backbone of Pynnönen International Ltd Oy’s warehousing operations is based on the CHEP Equipment Pooling System’s pallet inspection and repair services. These operations also include pallet collection and customer deliveries throughout Finland. Now, pallet deliveries and collection can be reported and monitored much more effectively than before.
