Digia Plc Press release 7 June 2010
Digia and University of Jyväskylä, supported by Intel, launch a program to offer MeeGo training materials and state-of-the-art Intel Atom Z600 based development environments to Finnish universities to accelerate adoption of MeeGo in education and innovation.
With the program, the parties target 1) addressing the increasing need of MeeGo competence in Finnish ICT industry 2) helping Universities to offer attractive and competitive curricula and 3) fueling concrete innovation on rapidly emerging MeeGo platform.
Digia will provide selected Universities in Finland MeeGo training material designed for learning MeeGo programming on latest Intel mobile processor architectures. Intel will provide mobile device development environments running latest Intel Moorestown processors. University of Jyväskylä starts establishing a MeeGo competence cluster that provides a single point of contact for other universities to get access to the training suite and share their learning and research scenarios and curricula within the Finnish university network. The collaboration aims at starting first MeeGo programming curricula during second half of the year.
"Digia as a leading MeeGo software solutions provider has a natural position to provide state-of-the-art training material suite to the Finnish University network. Digia believes that the program will result in both exciting learning and innovation experiences among the students, as well as increased supply of MeeGo and Qt talents to Digia and the Finnish ICT industry as a whole," says Jukka Heiska, Director of Business Development from Digia.
"Mobile devices based on the Intel® Atom™ processor and running MeeGo OS offer the ideal combination of performance and openness to foster innovation. This opens up a whole new set of options for new applications for tablets and smartphones. Intel is excited about the new MeeGo University Program in Finland and is proud to be providing the participating Universities with state-of-the-art mobile device development platforms running on the latest Intel Atom processors," said Mika Enberg, Mobile Ecosystem Enabling Executive, Intel.
"MeeGo competence cluster provides an important addition for keeping our mobile business and computing curriculum up-to-date. It provides a unique opportunity for the students and faculty to have hands-on experience on the capabilities and methods of a modern platform for developing innovative solutions for mobile and nomadic users. We also see the cluster as a very good means towards further increasing the co-operation between Finnish universities in their road towards educating high-quality professionals for the emerging mobile cloud computing," says Jukka Heikkilä, Professor from University of Jyväskylä.
